Bespoke CCTV systems

Most commercial vehicles have a requirement for CCTV and blind spot prevention, many sites will not allow access without a minimum of a rear facing camera due to health and safety issues.

F.O.R.S / CLOCS / CROSSRAIL are providing guides and pressure to comply with safety standards to ensure you run a safe fleet.

Due to larger vehicles having many blind spots, we have developed a system which can help prevent blind spots by showing the driver clearly what is out of normal view.

Our typical system has four cameras: FRONT, REAR, LEFT, and RIGHT which covers most vehicles entirely.

SAFETY

Many accidents with commercial vehicles happen at the sides so it makes sense to have cameras there to record the evidence and prove who is at fault.

Accidents most often occur when turning – pedestrians, cyclists and obstacles are often hidden from driver view and in the BLIND area. Our system reduces this Blind area by showing the driver what is at the sides or behind their vehicle.

To simplify the changing of views and prevent driver distraction our system automatically displays the correct view clearly on a monitor when the driver uses the turn signals; a Left turn will show the Left Camera view.

Likewise a Right turn shows the Right Camera and selecting Reverse shows the Rear view.

The driver can choose a default view which shows continuously until a turn signal or reverse is engaged. Should the driver choose the reverse camera as the default view the monitor behaves like a rear view mirror. The default view recommences after the manoeuvre.

All the cameras are recorded regardless of the view selected.

Extra Rear “Cab” camera

On tractor units we have an option to provide a rear of cab camera which becomes redundant when a trailer with camera is connected / towed. This helps with hitching and also records evidence should an accident occur without a trailer and associated camera.

Insurance Approval

Good evidence is crucial to insurance companies and operators. Recorded cctv is key to defending “bogus” claims and minimising costs when things go wrong. Often a very minor accident is blown out of proportion and without evidence to the contrary a large pay out often occurs.

Most insurance companies will consider better terms with the knowledge evidence is captured securely. Often underwriters will view the risks differently when a fleet operator is showing they take safety seriously.

Storage

A typical 4 camera system can record for over a month without over-writing any data. This is ideal as often a claim can arrive weeks after the event occurred. The recordings are held on a Hard Disk Drive (H.D.D) or in harsh environments a Solid State Hard Drive (S.S.D) is used. The difference is the SSD has no moving parts and can take considerably more vibration than a normal HDD. The only down side is the memory size is limited and the cost is much higher than a conventional HDD. The system can be configured to over write the oldest information when the drive is full.

Accessing the evidence

We have the ability to connect remotely to the stored recordings even after the vehicle is switched off. This provides instant access to the evidence and really simplifies the whole claims process.

Live viewing of all the cameras is available conveniently using a PC, Smartphone or Tablet.

Cameras and picture quality:

The cameras we install have high resolution and provide crisp and clear images in day and night conditions.

Most vehicle cameras are analogue and have a resolution known as D1, our system takes it to the next level which is known as 960H which is around 30% improvement over D1. For the highest picture quality, we are able to use Internet Protocol (I.P) cameras which can provide the very highest of resolutions and allow full High Definition and beyond. Due to the digital nature of I.P cameras they are not conventionally used in vehicles but our system can make use of not only I.P cameras but mix with analogue cameras also – recording all the information from both technologies.
